Sammy Akers Obituary

Sammy Akers, age 76, Harrodsburg, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the VA Foster Home in Lexington. Born April 13, 1945 in Hyden, KY, he was the son of the late Dillard and Rose Lee (Lewis) Akers. He was a graduate of Dilce Combs High School in Hazard, was a retired U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and liked to fish.

Survivors include: four daughters Samantha (Darrell Barnett) Akers Pope of Harrodsburg, Sheila Sharp of Danville,  Mary Lombardo of Versailles, IN and Brenda Dickhart of Ft. Pierce, FL; two sons Rick Akers of Harrodsburg and Michael Akers of Salt Lake City, UT;  one brother: Larry (Tina) Akers of Lawrenceburg, KY; four grandchildren Nash Pope and  Corey Akers both of Harrodsburg, Justin Sharp of Danville and Steffen Lombardo of Versailles, IN; one granddaughter Baleigh Akers of Salt Lake City, UT and ex-wife Patty Akers of Harrodsburg. Sammy was preceded in death by two brothers Walter Akers, and Brother, Eddie Akers.

Graveside services will be conducted 12:30 pm, Monday, December 6, 2021 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with full military rites. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville.
