Michael Edward VanDyke, age 73, Harrodsburg, son of the late Edward D. VanDyke and Bessie (Hines) VanDyke Henderson passed away at 11:51 PM on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Baptist Health in Lexington. Born September 11, 1948 in Harrodsburg, KY, he was a 1966 graduate of Harrodsburg High School, a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he received a “Purple Heart”, a retired grounds keeper at Old Fort Harrod State Park, liked playing softball, enjoyed watching all sporting events, spending time with his friends and was a member of the St. Peter AME Church in Harrodsburg.
Survivors include a sister-in-law Harrilyn VanDyke; a first cousin Edward (Barbara) Davidson; a nephew Phillip L. VanDyke all of Harrodsburg; an aunt Nicola Hines; two cousins Craig Hines and Robin Hines all of Campbellsville and a great niece Jaila Dunn of Harrodsburg. Besides his parents, Michael was preceded in death by a brother Phillip Lamont VanDyke.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Sims Funeral Services by Rev. Louise Spencer and Rev. Ralph Smith. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville with full military honors.
Pallbearers are Leon VanDyke, Cecil Smith, Tilton Bradshaw, Steve Smith, Steve Yeast, and Keith Walker.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of services at Sims Funeral Services.
