Mary Lee (VanDyke) Owens

Mary Lee Owens, age 78, Harrodsburg, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Ephraim McDowell RMC in Danville. Born December 7, 1944 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Johnny R. and IwLo Gene (Jones) VanDyke.

Survivors include a daughter Wendy Owens Cottrill of Lexington, a son: Pete Bolden Owens III of Frankfort; three sisters Dessie Mae Brown, Arnetta Bottoms and Gloria Bowman all of Harrodsburg, KY; one brother Allen (Jacqueline) VanDyke of San Jose, CA; six grandchildren Peter Owens, Ashley Owens, Alexis Owens, Nick Owens, Gary Campbell and Tory Richardson; eleven great grandchildren Davin Richardson, Devaughn Richardson, Destiny Richardson, Jhasten Douglas, Talia Downey, Taariah Owens, Taliyah Jackson, Taahira Fischer, Joaquin Dosequis, Griselda Dosequis and Winter Owens and one great-great grandson Zaiden Richardson. Besides her parents Mary was preceded in death by a daughter Brandi Gayle Owens, three brothers Johnny VanDyke, Paul VanDyke and Gene VanDyke; two sisters Lillie Doty, and Geneva Pearl Penman. She was also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mary was a factory worker for the former Transylvania Company. 

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Carpenter's Christian Church, 1340 US 127 By-Pass in Harrodsburg by Pastor Donald Wayne Smith and Pastor Jesse Morris. The burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers are Kenton Bottoms, Mark Stigall, Kelly Bowman, Johnny Bowman, Devaughn Richardson, and Davin Richardson.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 11:00 am until the time of services at Carpenter’s Christian Church in Harrodsburg.
