John Thomas Mayes, age 70, Harrodsburg, husband of Diane Frances Williams Mayes, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 at his home in Harrodsburg, KY. Born August 20, 1951 in Lewisburg, Tennessee, he was the son of the late John Frank and Ollie Pauline (Hill) Mayes. He attended high school in Lewisburg, TN, was a dietary worker at Centre College in Danville, KY and worked at several local area factories and was a member of the St. Peter AME Church in Harrodsburg, KY.
Survivors other than his wife include: three daughters Tajuana (Barry) Mayes Bradshaw and Tom'miya (Juan) Mayes Crawford both of Louisville and Jonnika Mayes of Paintsville, KY; two step-sons Craig Ford of Harrodsburg and Gary Ford II of Danville, KY; four sisters Teresa Holman and Nancy O'Neal both of Lewisburg, TN, Mary Davis of Chicago and Edna (Anthony) Williams of Louisville; one brother Joe Mayes of Lewisburg; three nieces Yolanda O'Neal of Chicago, Shalanda Mayes of Louisville and Tiffany Mayes of Lewisburg; six nephews Jerry Mayes, Louisville, KY, Johnny Holman and James Holman both of Lewisburg, Jimmy (Priscilla) Holman of Texas, Ronnie Sanders and Cameron Edminston, both of Lewisburg; nine children he raised Christy (George) Parker Verner of Louisville and Kathy Parker Cochran of Tampa, FL, Douglas Horne, Michelle Hamilton and Danielle Pullen, all of Louisville, KY, Mariquis Brown of St. Petersburg, FL, Brandon Ford of Harrodsburg, Brittany Ford of Lexington and Jassmen Brown of Louisville; 34 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by two nephews Charlie Mayes and Jerry Holman.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm, Monday, September 13, 2021 at Sims Funeral Services by Rev. Ralph Smith. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers are John Linton, Jeff Wilson, Marquis Hereford, Thomas Porter, Ronnie Beasley, and Staffond Trigg.
Honorary bearers are Frank McGinnis, Juwan Mayes, Tywan Mayes, Brandon Ford, Elijah Mays, Freeman Edwards, Malik Ford, Justin Doolin, Mariqus Brown and Johnny Beasley.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Monday, September 13, 2021 from 10:00 am until the time of services at Sims Funeral Services.
