Jimmie Gillis "Rainbow" Burrus, age 92, Nicholasville, widower of Della Rose (Lyons) Burrus, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at his home. Born March 31, 1933 in Mayo, KY, he was the son of the late Raymond Mark and Hallie Mae (Jones) Burrus. He was a graduate of West Side High School in Harrodsburg and was an entrepreneur and owner of a dry-cleaning service in Cleveland, OH and later in Lexington, KY. Jimmie enjoyed gardening, playing checkers, reading, fixing things (mostly tractors), doing anything outdoors and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter Deborah Kay (Glenward) Hayden of Hillsborough, NJ; one son James Kevin (Jillian) Burrus of Philadelphia, PA; and two grandchildren Jonathan Hayden of Denver, CO and Kristen Hayden of Hillsborough, NJ. He was also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. Other than his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by a brother Davis Burrus and five sisters: Flossie Burrus, Edna Coates, Opal Sigar, Elizabeth Burrus and Alma Meaux.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Sims Funeral Services by Rev. Donald Wayne Smith. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrodsburg. Visitation will be on Saturday from 12 noon until time of services.
Pallbearers are Glenward Hayden, Julian Morgan, Cornelius Peery, Lester Patton Jr, Raymond Patton, Tyrone Patton, and Randy Sigar.
