James Wm. Waggener Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Manchester, KY on March 21, 2023. Born October 2, 1937 in Burgin, Kentucky, he was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Ford Waggener and was the son of the late Wm. Howard and Ruth Green Waggener. Bill was also preceded in death by a sister Francis (Othniel) Alsop and a brother Guilford (Nancy) Waggener. He was a graduate of Burgin Independent School District and a lifetime member of the Burgin Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee, treasurer, Sunday School teacher and pulpit committee member. He made multiple mission trips both spiritual and disaster relief.

Bill was a cattle and crop farmer, builder, woodworker and craftsman. His service to the community included being a member of the Kentucky Army National Guard in Harrodsburg,  a former member of the Selective Service Board, Mercer County Planning and Zoning Board, Mercer County Fiscal Court Magistrate, Kentucky Farm Bureau, Habitat for Humanity, Central Kentucky Agriculture Credit Board, Gideons International, Future Farmers of America and the Mercer County 4-H Council. His greatest gifts to those of us temporarily left behind are his love of the Lord and family, kind heart, attitude and humility.

Survivors include two children James (Anita) Waggener Jr. of Simpsonville, KY and Sarah (Stanley) Bowling of Manchester, KY; four grandchildren Mark Waggener, Adam Waggener, Sondra (Rex) Bray and Steven (Crystal) Bowling; four great-grandchildren Stephanie (Darrell) Goins, Rex Bray III, Skylar (Tyler) Ferrell and Emaleigh (Trevor) Sams; two great-great grandchildren Brooklyn Goins and Kanan Goins and a host of devoted nieces, nephews and extended family.
