Geneva Pearl Penman, age 97, Harrodsburg, widow of George Penman, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at her home in Danville. Born August 18, 1925 in Harrodsburg she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Iwlo (Jones) VanDyke. She attended West Side High School in Harrodsburg and after retiring from Corning Glass Inc., she continued in private sittings since she had a lifetime passion of caring for others. Geneva enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Mercer Senior Citizens Center, family gatherings, soap operas, cooking, traveling, playing darts and board games, especially “Trouble”. Geneva accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Centennial Baptist Church for over 90 years.
Survivors include two sons James Thomas Wheat of Syracuse, NY and William Henry “Chicken” (Roberta) Warren of Danville; a stepson Jeff Burnside of Lancaster; four sisters Dessie Brown, Arnetta Bottoms, Gloria Bowman and Mary Owens all of Harrodsburg; one brother Allen Franklin (Jackie) VanDyke of San Jose, CA and was also survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Other than her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a special friend William Warren; a son Doc Warren; three daughters Bonnie Sue Travers, Janice Ann Buster Stigall and Martha Jane Buster; a sister, Lillie Doty; five brothers Johnny VanDyke, Paul VanDyke, George VanDyke, Ralph VanDyke and Gene VanDyke.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 26, 2022 at the Centennial Baptist Church by Bro. Donald Wayne Smith. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers are Lamar Stigall, Ahntoan Tompkins, Brandon Ford, Gary Brown, Kelly Bowman and Dewayne Buster. Honorary bearers are Paul VanDyke, Rashad Buster, Mario Buster, Deshaun Warren, James Wheat and Kenton Bottoms.
