Gayle Norman Sims, age 85, Lexington, husband of Alberta Elizabeth Cooper Sims, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at VA Medical Center in Lexington. Born July 28, 1936 in Duncan, KY, he was the son of the late Bennie Roscoe (B.R.) and Ada Castleman (Currens) Sims. He attended Harrodsburg High School, served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, was the owner and operator of Sims Antiques in Lexington for a number of years, was a Kentucky Colonel and member of the Broadway Christian Church in Lexington.
Survivors other than his wife include: a daughter Teresa Gail Sims Stephens of Lake Park, FL; two step-sons Jerry (Sue) Carmickle of Georgetown and Bobby (Debi) Carmickle of Columbus, GA; two grandchildren Travis (Emily) Stephens of Richmond and Trent (Lisa) Stephens of West Palm Beach, FL; three great grandchildren; several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents Gayle was preceded in death by a stepson Donald Carmickle, two brothers Buster and Edgar Sims and a sister Onita Stayton.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Sims Funeral Services by Bro. James Harley and Rev. Travis Stephens. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be Friday, July 8, 2022 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Saturday, July 9, 2022 after 9:00 am at Sims Funeral Services.
Pallbearers are Rev. Travis Stephens, Trent Stephens, Dax Carmickle, Jeff Carmickle, Steven Camickle, Richard Carmickle and one honorary bearer, Lee Granville.
