Elizabeth (Wilson) Shannon

Elizabeth Wilson Shannon, age 94, a longtime resident of Harrodsburg, widow of Joshua Collins Shannon, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024 at University of Kentucky Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Born May 2, 1930 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late James Nathaniel "Nate" and Vivian Elizabeth (Ballard) Wilson. She was a 1948 graduate of West Side High School, she attended Central State College in Xenia, OH in 1949, graduated from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in Louisville to assist her father ("Nate" Wilson) in the funeral service business. She worked at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital from 1972 until 1984, was Walmart employee for more than 30 years, a charter member of the Pioneer Doll Club and West Side Reunion Committee, and was the past Secretary of the Missionary Society at St. Peter AME church where she was an active member. She was an avid doll collector, restorer and repaired many dolls for family and friends and she also loved to fish. She knows that God promised her a home in Heaven.

Survivors include a son: Rick (Nia) Henderson of Columbus, OH; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family is honored to have Sims Funeral Services provide services for Elizabeth which will be conducted 11:00 am, Thursday, August 8, 2024 by Rev. Ralph Smith. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of services at Sims Funeral Services.

Pallbearers are William Bartleson, Jose Walker, Bentley Jones and Nick R. Yeast I.
