Connie Sue Gibson, age 73, Harrodsburg, wife of George Edward Gibson, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington. Born March 12, 1951 in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Mable (Gray) Carpenter. She was a graduate of the Burgin Independent and became a full-time bus driver for the Mercer County School District from March 11, 1974 until July 1, 2013. She enjoyed camping, traveling out West to see the countryside, woodworking, sewing, crocheting and being with family and friends. She was a member of the Honor Guard for the AVVA – Vietnam Veterans of America where she played the trumpet. Connie attended the Hopewell Baptist Church and Carpenter’s Christian Church.
Survivors other than her husband include a daughter Marci Lee (Travis) Gray and a son Brent Edward (Carla) Gibson both of Harrodsburg; one brother Bobby (Brenda) Carpenter of Burgin; four grandchildren Jacob (Morgan) Gibson, Tori Gray, Taylor (Hudson) Taylor and Clayton Gibson; one great grandchild Greylynn Gibson; two step grandchildren Lee King and Tara Harris; two step great grandchildren Chloe Harris and Weston King; a dear friend who was like a sister Louketta (Jim) Cheatham; and Doug Taylor who was like a son. Connie was also survived by several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by a brother Jimmie Carpenter and two sisters Jean Reynolds and Barbara Strevels.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Monday, July 22, 2024 at Sims Funeral Services in Harrodsburg by Senior Minister Greg Warren and Associate Minister John Kesel of the Carpenter’s Christian Church. The burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville following the service.
Pallbearers are Jacob Gibson, Clayton Gibson, Hudson Taylor, Lee King, Cody Harris, Chris Reynolds, Brian Carpenter and Garland Frederick. Honorary bearers are Donnie & Sharon Suttles, Derek Gibson, Scottie Gibson, Charles West, Everett Spurlock, Virginia Hayslett, Rich Newsome, Ray Newsome, Reed Arnett, Greg Pelphry and members of AVVA and the VVA .
Visitation will be Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Monday, July 22nd from 9:00 am until time of services at Sims Funeral Services.
