Claudine (Sallee) Garr

Claudine Garr, age 84, Danville, widow of Derward B. Garr, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 at UK - Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington. Born November 26, 1934 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Everette Sallee and Millie (Devon) Simpson. She was member of the graduating class of 1952 from West Side High School in Harrodsburg, was a ward clerk at the former Darnall General Hospital in Danville, a clerical assistant for the KY Division of Unemployment Insurance in Danville, a member of the St. Peter AME Church in Harrodsburg, where she served on the kitchen committee and attended the St. James AME Church in Danville. Mrs. Garr loved to play Bingo and gamble on “The Boat” in Louisville as well as the “Red Mile” in Lexington and she really enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include three daughters Darlene Garr of Frankfort, Millie Garr of Danville and Sherry (Henry) Hilliard of Jeffersonville, IN; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins, great-great grandchildren and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Alvin Garr, two daughters Carol J. Johnson and Gwendolyn Dale Garr, three brothers Charles Sallee, James Wesley Sleet and William Devine; four sisters Dora Thompson, Luana Shelton, Dorthy Eskridge and Margie Sallee and a special friend Shirley Bartleson.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm, Friday, December 21, 2018 at Sims Funeral Services by Rev. Ralph Smith and Rev. Kenneth Golphin. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers are: Dorain Gaines, Chris Conner, De'Varrion Garr, Kameron Hilliard, Ian Hurt, and Chaunsey Hilliard.

Visitation will be Friday, December 21, 2018 from 11:00 am until the hour of service at Sims Funeral Services.
