Bernice Lands Obituary

Bernice Pauline Lands, age 87, of Danville passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025 at The Willows of Harrodsburg. She was born on January 4, 1938 in Kidds Store, KY (Casey County). Pauline was the daughter of the late Omer G. and Lucy (Lane) Brown. Pauline was a graduate of Mercer County High School and obtained her degrees in education from Campbellsville University and Eastern Kentucky University. She worked as a full-time teacher at Greenhills Middle School in Cincinnati, Ohio. She returned to her ancestral home of Kentucky from Cincinnati in 1989 to live closer to her parents and her siblings while she enjoyed her retirement. 

Pauline was loved by her family and was known for being the best listener. She enjoyed reading, listening to audiobooks, spending time with her family, taking trips with her sisters around the US, and baking her specialties that included peanut butter fudge and rum cake. She was a Christian and attended Centenary Methodist Church in Danville.

Survivors include her son Troy Lands and his wife Krista Lands of Cincinnati. Additional survivors include her two grandsons: Anthony (A.J.) Lands and Brent Lands of Cincinnati, her five sisters: Mary Rose Smith and Doris Brown both of Harrodsburg, Phyllis Hathaway of New Braunfels, TX, Ila Homsher of Pacifica, CA and Lana Callahan of Fort Collins, CO; her eight nieces: Jennifer Richie, Pamela Brown, Rhonda Doris, Sandy Brown, Kelli Brown, Allison Callahan, Ellie Dunne and Lindsey Brown; and her two nephews: Dr. Benjamin Callahan and Ross Hathaway. Other than her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her sister, Alma J. Edgington, as well as by her two brothers, Omer G. Brown Jr. and Dr. Larry W. Brown.

Pauline’s Celebration of Life will begin with visitation at 2:00 pm at Sims Funeral Services in Harrodsburg on Sunday, January 18th. The celebration itself will begin at 3:00 pm that day. The celebration will be conducted by her loving family and by her pastor, Reverend Christopher Morgan of Centenary Methodist Church. 

Honorary pallbearers are Mary Rose Smith, Jennifer Richie, Anthony Lands and Brent Lands.
