Alma Meaux Obituary

Alma Louise (Burrus) Meaux, age 94, Harrodsburg, widow of the late Ivan Singleton Meaux, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Walker's Trail Senior Living in Danville. Born March 4, 1931, in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Mark and Hallie Mae (Jones) Burrus. She was a graduate of West Side High School in Harrodsburg where she was the Salutatorian of her graduating class. Alma was a full-time self-employed domestic worker for most of her life and was a devout member of the Dividing Ridge Baptist Church in Mayo, KY (during its operation) where she was a Sunday school teacher and song leader. Later in her life she began attending the Centennial Baptist Church in Harrodsburg.


Survivors include a brother Jimmie Burrus of Nicholasville, a daughter Mary Ann (Cornelius) Peery of Lexington; two sons Ivan Wayne (Cleo) Meaux of Louisville and Larry McRay (Shirley) Meaux of Lexington; four grandchildren Kirbye Anne Meaux of Louisville, Tiras Javon Meaux of Danville, Ivan K Meaux of Louisville, and Sydney Ivy-Nicole (Julian) Morgan of Lexington. Three great grandchildren Kanye Hobbs of Harrodsburg, Jah'Jah and Jay'Vian Meaux of Danville plus other loved ones and a host of friends. Alma was preceded in death by a grandchild Charles Brown III, a brother Davis Burrus, four sisters Flossie Burrus, Edna Coates, Opal Sigar, and Elizabeth Burrus.


Homegoing Celebration service will begin at 12:00 pm, Friday, May 9, 2025, at Centennial Baptist Church by Pastor Donald Wayne Smith.

 

Burial will be in Dividing Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Mayo, Kentucky.

 

Visitation will be on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 10:00 am until the time of services at the church.

 

Pallbearers are Cornelius Peery, Tiras Meaux, Ivan K Meaux, Julian Morgan, Randy Sigar, Raymond Patton, Gus Parks, Henry Parks, and Lester Patton. Wayne Meaux and Larry Meaux will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
