Samuel Wheat III, age 70, Harrodsburg, husband of Catherine Yeast Wheat, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at VA Medical Center in Lexington. Born September 16, 1949 in Harrodsburg, KY, he was the son of the late Samuel and Lillie Belle (Vandyke) Wheat. Sam attended Harrodsburg High School, was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, a retired factory worker for Modine Manufacturing Co. of Harrodsburg and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He liked to play the drums especially at church events and listened to a lot of jazz music, played a lot of sports as a youth, enjoyed being with his family and was a member of the Centennial Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife include: one daughter Chandra White of Lexington; five grandchildren Cerenity Barker of Lexington, Cerista Johnson of Indianapolis, Harmony White of Lexington, Kingston Yeast and Kollier Ray both of Harrodsburg and several in-laws. He was preceded in death by a son Jordan Yeast and a daughter Cynthia Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm, Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Centennial Baptist Church by Elder J.D. Short III, Pastor Donald Wayne Smith and Pastor Orlando Mays followed by U. S. Army Military Honors. Visitation will be Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 2:00 pm until the time of services at the Centennial Baptist Church located at 291 West Lane in Harrodsburg. Burial will be at 9:00 am on Monday, October 14, 2019 in Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers are William "Bo" Yeast, George Yeast, Steve Yeast, Larry Yeast, Craig Yeast, Julius Yeast, Nicholas Short. Trevor Short and James Yeast. Honorary bearers are William Warren, Paul VanDyke, Kenton Bottoms, Tony VanDyke, Terry Yeast, Nathaniel Bean, Thaddeus Mays, Cecil Smith, Paul Ellis, Russ Mays, Lewis Payne, Jay Parks, Tyus Short and Donald Smith II.
