Michael Heathman Obituary

Michael Jay Heathman, age 62, Harrodsburg, husband of Pamela Carey Heathman, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Sycamore Medical Center in Miamisburg, OH. Born August 12, 1955 in Harrodsburg, KY, he was the son of the late William "Bud" and Billie (Duncan) Heathman, a 1973 graduate of Harrodsburg High School, served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, earned a BA Degree in Music from Belmont University in Nashville and a BA Degree in Business at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA and also attended Eastern Kentucky University and University of Kentucky and was a member of the Harrodsburg Lions Club. He was a sales representative for Kentucky Uniforms in Lexington, Ky however his passion was MUSIC (playing the bass guitar) and he had the privilege of playing with numerous bands over the years; playing R&B, Jazz, Gospel, Rock & Roll, Country and The Blues. Mike was a former studio musician in Nashville, TN where he played for several well-known artists including Pat Boone, Ray Stevens, Johnny Paycheck, Olivia Newton John, and Ronnie Law. Mike also taught private music lessons, was a former member of the UK 101 Club, coached his son’s YMCA basketball, AAU and Junior Pro Basketball Teams. He was a member of his son’s high school football booster club and if he wasn’t coaching his son, he was always on the sideline rooting him on. He was an avid fan of college football and basketball. Mike was a member of the St. Philips Episcopal Church in Harrodsburg and attended Macedonia Baptist Church where he was a member of the band.

Survivors other than his wife include: his son: Eric Michael Heathman of Lexington, KY, a step son Josh Baer of Elizabethtown, KY, a step daughter Caitlin Baer of Lexington, KY. Also surviving are four nephews, Lee (Cheryl), Travis, Mike (Lee Ann) and Bo Heathman and one niece Billie (Nick) Johnson all of Mississippi. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Heathman.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm, Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Sims Funeral Services by Fr. Peter Doddema, Rector and Rev. Reginald Davis. Visitation will be Saturday, April 28th from 5 until 8 pm and Sunday, April 29th from 1 pm until the time of services. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery in Harrodsburg with Military Rites.

Pallbearers are: Lee, Travis, Mike, and Bo Heathman, Bennie Mabson and Phil Petit. Honorary bearers are Tony Wilson, Ivan Graves, Tom McCauley, Pat McCauley and Dustin McCauley.
