James Hardin "Buffalo" Carey, age 88, Harrodsburg, husband of Imogene Peavler Carey, died Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center in Harrodsburg. Born September 29, 1929 in Harrodsburg, KY, he was the son of the late Everett and Gertie Mae (Yates) Carey. He attended Mercer County Schools, was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, worked on the railroad, was a brick mason and an antique dealer. He was also a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge # 777 F & AM, liked trading, fishing, spending time with his family and was an avid UK sports fan.
Survivors other than his wife include: one daughter: Vicki (Terry) Sterling of Portland, TN; two sons Ricky Carey of Harrodsburg and Todd Carey of Bardstown; one sister Frances Alford of Harrodsburg; four brothers Bill Carey of Murfreesboro, TN, Cecil (Willa May) Carey of Lancaster, John (Ruth) Carey of Frankfort and Everett (Beth) Carey of Danville; five grandchildren, Ricky Dale Carey, Jr., Joshua Lee Carey, Jason Carey, Amber Rae Carey and Brandi Carey; five great granddaughters, one great-great granddaughter; one great-great grandson and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Mary Carey.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 pm, Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Sims Funeral Services by Bro. Lynn Releford and Robert Preston. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers are: Rick Carey, Jason Carey, Andy Baker, Robert Preston, Mark Carey and Joshua Carey. Honorary Bearers are Harold Lester, Wayne Quisenberry, Mike Matherly, Freddy Peavler and I.C. Phillips.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 12:00 noon until 2:30 pm at Sims Funeral Services.
