Dortha S. Lawson, age 84, Harrodsburg, wife of Gene Lawson, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Baptist Health in Lexington. Born December 8, 1934 in Stanford, KY, she was the daughter of the late Robert Pitts Sampson Sr. and Sallie (Chestnut) Sampson McQueen. She was a graduate of Rose Hill High School, Co-Owner of Lawson’s Jewelry, Church Women’s Fellowship, Friendship Circle, Goodwill Sunday School Class, Kentucky Colonel Bowling League, Lawson’s Jewelry Bowling League, Monday and Thursday night Local Bridge Clubs, was very active with the Lady’s Group of the Shriner’s because of her interest in the care of children and was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church Disciples of Christ.
Survivors other than her husband include: one daughter Dana (Lindsay) Rice of Versailles; two sons David Lawson of Fort Worth, TX and Charlie Lawson of Harrodsburg; two sisters Pauline Holloway of South Lebanon, OH and Margaret Ann Baugh of Versailles, a half-sister Elaine McQueen Clark of Dayton, KY and a half-brother William (Wanda) McQueen of West Chester, OH; six grandchildren Stephen (Elyssa) Rice, Anthony Rice, Susan Rice, Colton Lawson, Hannah Lawson, and Hailey Lawson. Dortha was preceded in death by two sisters Eileen Lester and Katie Sallee, one brother Robert Pitts Sampson Jr. and a half-brother Marion Lynn McQueen.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm, Monday, June 24, 2019 at Harrodsburg Christian Church Disciples of Christ by Rev. Gaye Haralu. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers are: Art Hembree, Terry Graham, Jackie Freeman, Kenny Wade, Bob Burchett and Bill Houston. Honorary bearers are Wanda Tope, the Christian Women`s Fellowship, the Friendship Circle, the Goodwill Sunday School Class, the KY Colonel League and Lawson`s Jewelry Bowling Teams.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Sims Funeral Services and Monday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm at the Harrodsburg Christian Church Disciples of Christ.
