Mattie L. (Pope) Cunningham

Mattie L. Cunningham, age 91, Harrodsburg, widow of Robert L. Cunningham, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Ephraim McDowell RMC in Danville, KY.  Born October 4, 1924, in Harrodsburg, KY, she was the daughter of the late George Leonard and Ora (Kimberlin) Pope.  She was a 1943 graduate of West Side High School and was Salutatorian of her graduating class.  She was a former employee of Bishop Dry Cleaners, One-Hour Cleaners, and Harrod Cleaners, Mercer Dress/Jonathan Logan, and Cricketeer.  She was also a member of Mercer County Senior Citizens, West Side School Reunion Committee, and a member of the First Baptist Church where she formerly served on the Usher Board and Kitchen Committee. She was also a personal seamstress for many people in the community as well as an accomplished crocheter and quilter.

Survivors include two daughters: Roberta E. Cunningham of Harrodsburg, KY, and Carolyn (Jeffrey) Cunningham-Banks of Silver Spring, MD; three grandchildren: David (Nyedra) Booker of LaPlata, MD, Lori Osborne of Sacramento, CA, and Kelli Osborne of Henrico, VA; two great granddaughters: Bryann Booker and Madison "Mattie" Booker both of LaPlata, MD, and one great grandson: Robert "Robbie" Osborne of Henrico, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cunningham was preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma Cunningham Osborne, one brother, Paul Schofield Pope, and three sisters, Mary Ellen Pope, Katie Madge Taylor and Gladys Christine Bryant.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church.  Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrodsburg, KY. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at First Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Pallbearers are: Truman Bartleson, Jr., Jerome Harris, Frederick Brown, Chris Short, James Thurman, and Leon VanDyke.
